“At noon in the desert a panting lizard
waited for history, its elbows tense,
watching the curve of a particular road
as if something might happen.”

  1. I love that stanza – all of life is there.

I often sit and contemplate on the life of birds and animals. I believe they lives of great savagery, constantly hunting and being hunted. The tweeting of birds that is so pleasing to us is nothing more that defensive, offensive or erotic calls to enemies, friends and potential mates.

Each day they face life or death as we humans could never imagine, and yet they thrive.

    Thanks for the post, excellent.

  2. Actually, this was taken in Lafayette #1, which is in the Garden District, across the street from Commander’s Palace. You’re thinking of St. Louis #1 (there are a lot of cemeteries in New Orleans). I did go there last time for a tour, and have some photos of Marie Laveau’s tomb. I’m working on an entry on that – reading a book about her first… doing my research.
